This professional service building attempts to elevate the strip mall building typology so prevalent in our cities. It was designed to house multiple tenants and address the street while simultaneously taking advantaging of views over the adjacent South Saskatchewan River from the rear.
An emphasis was placed on simple construction techniques and a simple form that would simultaneously rise from and yet integrate with the prairie landscape. Openings, large roof overhangs, courtyards, and reveals in the stone cladding allow the strong sunlight to animate the exterior forms through the day.
The building currently serves as the home for &Architecture’s Saskatoon office, offering expansive views of the prairie sky and landscape, while efficiently connecting to both the Meewasin Valley trail system and major traffic routes within the city.
